Abstract

A study was conducted to study the cause of high mortalities of goats in a model Boer goat breeding farm in Lyantonde District, South-Western Uganda by clinical, laboratory and postmortem examinations. It was established that the immediate cause of deaths on the farm was result of severe anemia due to acute haemonchosis. The investigation demonstrated the vitality of laboratory diagnosis in treatment and control of haemonchosis and also the importance of blood transfusion in symptomatic treatment of anemia resulting from acute haemonchosis in goats.
