The study was conducted to find out if vaccines handling was the possible causes of vaccination failures against infectious bursal disease (IBD). It was thought that vaccine handling could be the cause of vaccination failures. Therefore vaccination procedures were done as per the recommendations of the manufacturers and any poor response could be attributed to other causes. The vaccines were obtained from reputable manufacturers of vaccines with history of great success. Since immunity to infectious bursal disease was strain specific, it was concluded that vaccine failure observed could be due to the fact that the IBDV strains in the vaccines were different from the field challenge IBDV strains. It was therefore recommended that research should be carried out to identify the different strains of IBDV in the field. This would enable use of proper IBD vaccines.
