Abstract

A total of 69 medical and 80 veterinary practitioners in 14 districts of Uganda to were assessed to gauge their perceptions on risks and prevention of zoonotic diseases particularly to immuno-compromised persons. It was shown that veterinarians encounter zoonotic diseases more often than medical workers. They also often held discussions on zoonotic diseases transmission and prevention with clients more than medical workers. Furthermore, it was observed that, veterinarians and medical workers in Uganda hold very conflicting views about diseases risks posed by various domestic animal species and zoonotic diseases pathogens. Worse still, veterinarians and medical workers in Uganda do not share information and experiences on zoonotic diseases situation in the locations/communities they both work in.
