Types of Submissions

Journal Articles

Articles should be works of original research on a topic or theme related to Ugandan or eastern African history, archaeology or heritage, or with substantial conceptual overlaps with this area.

Journal articles should be no more than 10,000 words, inclusive of all material including title, footnotes, abstract and acknowledgements.

Articles should include (in this order)

  • title page (with title, author name(s), and author institutional affiliation(s))
  • abstract (maximum 200 words)
  • main text (including footnotes)
  • acknowledgments

Reports

Reports may cover source bases such as an archives, a research site such as an archaeological dig, or an event such as an academic conference or workshop. The topic should be related to Ugandan or eastern African history, archaeology or heritage, or with substantial conceptual overlaps with this area.

Reports should be no more than 4000 words inclusive of all material including title, footnotes, abstract and acknowledgements.

Reports should include (in this order)

  • title page (with title, author name(s), and author institutional affiliation(s))
  • abstract (maximum 200 words)
  • main text (including footnotes)
  • acknowledgments

Book Reviews

Book Reviews should discuss (not simply summarize or critique) a book published on Ugandan or eastern African history, archaeology and heritage that has been published within the past four (4) years of the date of the submission of the review. Preference will be given to reviews of books that are published by Ugandan publishers and that are widely available in Uganda. Reviews should normally address one book, but may review up to two books.

Book Reviews should be no more than 1000 words inclusive of all other materials including footnotes.

Book Reviews should include (in this order)

  • title page (with title, author name(s), author institutional affiliation(s)
  • full reference for the book(s) under review
  • main text (including footnotes)
